PRACTICAL GUIDE

What stays in your browser when you use ByteGuide?

Understand local file processing, saved preferences, semester records and contact messages on this site.

“Processed in your browser” describes where a calculation or file transformation runs. It does not mean that visiting a website makes no network requests, that every result is saved automatically, or that a shared computer is private. On ByteGuide, separating temporary tool inputs from intentionally saved records helps you know what to keep and what to clear.

Files and ordinary tool inputs

The tool code reads selected documents, text and images on your device. It does not upload them to an external conversion or OCR service. Document engines, fonts and language files load from this website when needed. Your browser still sends ordinary page and asset requests to the hosting server, which may keep technical logs. Those normal website requests are distinct from uploading the file you selected.

What is saved between visits?

Saved tool stars and recently opened tool identifiers use browser local storage. They do not contain the text or documents you processed. The Semester dashboard also uses local storage for the subjects, timetable and deadlines you explicitly save there. Those semester records are not synchronized with an online account and will not automatically appear in a different browser or on your phone. MDN’s Web Storage documentation explains how storage is associated with a website origin and how private-browsing behavior can differ.

Download important results before leaving

Most workspaces keep current inputs and results only for the active page. A reset, navigation or browser restart can discard them. Download a PDF or copy checked OCR text before closing its workspace. For saved semester records, use the dashboard’s backup export before clearing browser data or moving to another device. Check that a backup opens correctly and store it somewhere you control.

Choose the appropriate clearing control

Clear preferences in the footer removes saved and recent tool lists. Clear dashboard inside the Semester dashboard handles its separate academic records. These are separate controls because removing a shortcut should not silently erase your coursework plan. Clearing all browser data for this site may remove both kinds of stored information, including cached OCR assets. A later OCR run may need to download its language files again.

Camera and contact have different purposes

Take photo requests camera access only when you choose it. File selection remains an alternative. The camera stops after capture, when its dialog closes or when you leave the page. Sending a contact message, on the other hand, deliberately transmits the name, email and message entered in that form to the administrator. Do not use it to send private documents or passwords.

For a shared or borrowed device, save only records you are comfortable leaving in that browser. Close downloads and clear your saved records when finished. Read the privacy notice for the website’s full disclosures and use Contact if you need to ask about information you intentionally sent.
