EDITORIAL & TESTING

How we build and check the tools

ByteGuide Tools aims to make small tasks understandable and useful. A tool should explain the input it expects, the method it uses, the output it produces and the limits that matter. This page describes the approach used for the current release.

Working utilities, not placeholder listings

Listed tools have implemented controls and outputs. Calculators use stated formulas. Text summaries select sentences using local rules; they are not generative AI answers. Text similarity compares the two supplied texts; it is not an internet plagiarism search. Office conversions state which layout features they do and do not preserve.

Development and review

AI assistance is used in developing software and drafting explanatory material. Examples and claims are checked against the implemented behavior before publication. We do not present generated text as professional certification, university policy or independent product testing. The current release has automated calculation and file-structure checks, alongside browser checks of representative interactions. These checks reduce mistakes but do not establish that every possible input or device will work.

Guides and examples

Guides use small, reproducible examples such as credit-weighted GPA and attendance recovery. They explain decisions that a button alone cannot make: when a scan needs retaking, why a Word conversion loses layout, or why cropping is not redaction. They describe this website's actual tools. No claim of an official institutional relationship is intended.

Data and third-party software

Selected files and tool calculations stay in the browser. Saved semester records are an explicitly documented exception to temporary tool state. Contact messages are sent to the site owner. Open-source document and OCR libraries are used with bundled licenses. A third-party library can have its own defects or compatibility limits; keep an original copy of important files.

Corrections

Report a reproducible issue through the contact form. Include the tool name, device/browser, expected result and a small non-sensitive example. Never include passwords or private documents. A report is feedback, not a promise of response within a particular time. Guides display a review date; important future behavior changes should be reflected in the guide and tool notes.
